Honoring Tennessee Radio

The Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame was founded in 2010 by John Long, who also founded the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame a few years prior. Through a series of discussions with his Tennessee radio collegues, he met with Lee Dorman, a long-time Tennessee broadcaster and current General Manager of WQKR Radio in Portland, TN, who had recently written a book titled History of Nashville Broadcasting. It was decided that Mr. Dorman would take on the challenge of organizing the project and, in December 2010, Dorman and a core group of radio broadcast veterans met for the first time, forming The Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame. By-laws were drawn up as well as the mission for the organization, and then planning began for the first big event that would set the tone for the TRHoF - the first induction ceremony. On May 5, 2012, fifteen months after the forming of the TRHoF, the event took place in Murfreesboro, TN (the geographic center of the state), honoring Tennessee radio veterans from the 1930s to the present.

The Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame is dedicated to recognizing those who have made and those who continue to make radio in this state - from the large markets to the small - such a groundbreaking industry. And future plans include locating a suitable venue where this history can be stored and visited by people from around the world. In addition, the TRHoF is dedicated to supporting stations around the state, getting involved and helping to promote events.

The Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame is still in its infancy, but growing fast. We welcome fellow broadcasters and fans alike to Join The TRHoF and become part of our growth.
